The basics

What mobile home insurance is

Mobile home insurance, also called manufactured home insurance, is a homeowners-style policy made for homes built in a factory and moved to a site. It protects the home itself, your belongings, and your liability if someone is hurt on your property.

Manufactured homes face some risks differently from site-built houses, such as wind and how the home is anchored and set up. Because of that, many companies either do not insure them or offer them only through a separate program. Working with an independent agency gives you access to more choices.

The terms mobile home and manufactured home are often used to mean the same thing. Generally, homes built after federal manufactured housing standards took effect are called manufactured homes, while older ones are often called mobile homes. The age and construction of your home can affect which companies can insure it.

Homes in a community or park

You own the home and rent the lot. The park may require proof of liability coverage.

Homes on your own land

You own both the home and the land, and you may want coverage for sheds, garages, and other structures.

Helps repair or replace the home after covered causes such as fire, wind, hail, and theft damage.

Other structures

Helps with sheds, carports, decks, and detached garages on your property.

Personal property

Helps replace your furniture, clothing, electronics, and other belongings.

Personal liability

Helps pay if you are responsible for injuring someone or damaging their property.

How Kaufman helps

How we help you insure your manufactured home

Because we are independent, we can look at companies that specialize in manufactured homes, not just one company’s program.

Tell us about your home

Share the year, make, size, how it is anchored or set up, and whether it is in a park or on your own land.

We compare companies

An agent reviews options from the companies we work with that write manufactured homes.

Choose your coverage

Pick your coverage and deductible. We can often pair it with auto or other policies.

We focus on Ohio and North Carolina, and we can also help manufactured home owners in most other states. Photos of the home, its skirting, and any upgrades such as a new roof or furnace can help with your quote.

Common questions

Mobile home insurance questions

Is mobile home insurance different from homeowners insurance?

It works in a similar way, covering the home, belongings, and liability, but it is written for factory-built homes. Many standard homeowners companies do not insure manufactured homes, so specialized policies are common.

Can I get insurance for an older mobile home?

Often, yes, but fewer companies may be available for older homes. The home’s age, condition, and updates matter. We can check the options for your home.

Does my park’s insurance cover my home?

Usually not. A community’s policy generally covers its own property and liability. Your home, belongings, and personal liability need your own policy.

Is flood covered on a mobile home policy?

Standard policies usually do not cover flooding from rising water. Separate flood insurance may be available for manufactured homes.

What details help with a quote?

The year, make, model, size, location, how the home is set up and tied down, and any recent updates are all helpful.
