As an independent agency, we compare boat insurance from the companies we work with, so your customers are not limited to one company’s price or rules. Which companies can quote a customer depends on what they want to insure, where they live, and each company’s own rules.

What your customers need

What your slip holders and storage customers need

Many marinas require slip holders to carry boat liability insurance. Liability coverage pays if the boat owner is responsible for damaging the dock, another boat, or someone’s property, or for injuring someone. Some marinas also ask to be named on the policy as an additional insured, which gives the marina certain protection under the boater’s policy, or ask for a certificate of insurance showing that coverage is in place.

Storage customers have their own questions. A boat sitting on a trailer in a yard or on a rack inside a building can still be damaged by fire, wind, theft, or a falling tree. The owner’s policy should reflect where the boat is kept in the off-season, and some policies have a lay-up period, which is the part of the year the boat is expected to be out of the water.

Every spring and fall, your office staff can end up acting as an insurance help desk, explaining requirements and chasing paperwork. When boaters have an agent to call, your team can go back to running the marina.

Seasonal slip holders

They need liability coverage and proof, often in a short window before launch.

Storage customers

Boats in dry stack, rack, or yard storage need coverage that reflects where they are kept.

New boat owners

Buyers who just bought a boat may not have a policy yet when they sign your slip agreement.

Jet ski and small boat owners

Personal watercraft and small boats kept on lifts or trailers need their own coverage too.

We do not set your marina’s insurance requirements. We help boat owners meet the requirements you already have in your slip or storage agreement.

How we help your customers

How Kaufman helps boaters at your marina

Your boaters get a licensed agent who reads your requirements, compares options, and gets the right documents back to your office.

Quick quotes

We work to get boaters a quote quickly, especially before launch. Timing depends on the boat, its use, and each company’s review.

Multiple companies compared

We compare boat insurance from the companies we work with, so a boater is not limited to one company’s price or rules.

Proof of insurance handled

After a boater buys a policy, we can send your office proof of coverage and add your marina as an additional insured when the company allows it.

Coverage that fits the boat

We ask about navigation area, storage, lay-up period, the dinghy or tender, and gear, and explain each choice in plain language.

What you get as a partner

The goal is simple: less time spent on insurance paperwork and a trusted place to send boaters who need help.

How referrals work

How it works for your marina

Your staff makes the introduction. We handle everything after that.

Fill out the referral form

Fill out our referral form for your boater, or send them to your personal referral page to fill it out. Either way, the referral is tracked back to you.

We get your boater quoted

Once the form is in, we contact your boater and compare options. You or your boater can also call or text us anytime at (330) 486-8404.

We send proof of insurance

Once your boater chooses a policy, we send proof of insurance as quickly as we can.

Please share a customer’s name and contact details only after they agree to hear from us. Unless you hold an insurance license, leave questions about coverage, limits, and price to our licensed agents.

We follow state and federal rules on insurance referrals. You can read more on our partner program page.

Common questions

Questions from marinas

Can you add our marina as an additional insured?

Many boat policies allow an additional insured to be added when the boat owner asks. Whether it is available depends on the insurance company and the policy. We will tell the boater what their company allows.

What is the difference between a certificate of insurance and an additional insured?

A certificate of insurance is a document that shows a policy exists and lists its limits. It does not give your marina any coverage. Being named an additional insured gives your marina certain protection under the boater’s policy, according to its terms.

Are boats covered while they are in winter storage?

Most boat policies continue to cover the boat while it is stored, and the policy should reflect where it is kept. Some companies offer lay-up options for boats that are out of the water part of the year.

Can you help with our marina’s own business insurance?

We can talk about it. Marinas have specialized coverage needs, so we will be honest about what we can offer after we learn about your operation.

Do your agents visit marinas?

We work by phone, email, and online, which lets us help boaters wherever they are. Your staff only needs our number or the custom link to your personal referral page.

Will my staff need to explain insurance to customers?

No. Your team only needs to fill out the referral form or point the customer to your personal referral page. Unless someone on your staff holds an insurance license, questions about coverage, limits, and price should come to our licensed agents.
