Common questions

Workers’ compensation questions

Can you sell me Ohio workers’ compensation?

No. Ohio employers get workers’ compensation through the state-run Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, not from private insurance companies. We can help with coverage for employees in North Carolina and most other states.

My business is in Ohio, but some employees work in other states. What should I do?

Employees who work in other states may need coverage there. Talk with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation about your Ohio coverage, and ask us about options for the employees who work outside Ohio.

What is stop gap coverage?

Ohio’s state fund does not include employer’s liability coverage. Many Ohio employers add it through a stop gap endorsement, often on a general liability policy. Ask us whether it makes sense for your business.

Is workers’ compensation required in North Carolina?

North Carolina requires many employers to carry workers’ compensation, with some exceptions. The rules depend on your business and number of employees, so check the requirements from the North Carolina Industrial Commission or ask us.

What is pay-as-you-go workers’ compensation?

Pay-as-you-go programs use payroll from each pay period to figure your premium, instead of an estimate paid up front. They can help if your payroll changes during the year. Availability depends on the company and the state.

What affects the price of workers’ compensation?

The type of work your employees do, your payroll, your claims history, and the state all affect the price. Safer work and fewer claims can help over time.
